STEVE FLATMAN
General Manager
Steve has a BSc in Minerals Technology from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London and over 36 years’ experience in minerals processing. He spent 24 years in a variety of metallurgical management positions with AngloGold Ashanti in South Africa up to the level of Metallurgical Manager. From AngloGold he was seconded to Rand Refinery Ltd where he was employed in several positions including an extended period as acting Managing Director. Steve returned to the UK in 2008 to join project management company Aker Solutions. He has been General Manager at MMS since 2009.
Whilst a highly experienced metallurgist Steve has specialist knowledge of gold leaching, CIL/CIP operations, refractory gold processing and tailings processing. This includes being in charge of the ERGO Operations on the East Rand in South Africa, the world’s largest tailings retreatment operation.
He is a registered Chartered Engineer (C. Eng) in the UK and Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) in South Africa and a fellow of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Mine Metallurgical Managers Association where he has served on council as a regional representative and as President.
Steve has been a lifelong supporter of Man United football club and espouses the team at every opportunity. Whilst his former sporting career as a long distance runner has now been curtailed by dodgy knees, he still retains a high level of fitness with active gym sessions.
