Max Gerke
Metallurgical Engineer
Max has BSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. After graduating in 2014, Max worked at DRDGold Ergo Mining (Pty) Ltd, from 2015 to 2023.
During his time at DRDGold, Max worked as a Junior Metallurgist, Plant Metallurgist, Senior Plant Metallurgist and Metallurgical Engineer. During this time, he worked on numerous lab and pilot plant test work campaigns in the Metallurgical Research Department, including leaching, high-shear leach test, flotation, mineralogy campaigns, fine-grind and water treatment projects, to name a few.
Max has been involved in numerous capital projects throughout his career. Notable projects included conversion from electrowinning to zinc cementation plant, fine and coarse carbon recovery circuits, elution circuit up-grade, fine-grind circuit upgrade, cyanide briquet solubilization, modular lime slacking plant design, installation of auto-samplers and a water treatment plant, to name a few.
At the beginning of 2024, Max joined Maelgwyn Mineral Services as a Project Metallurgist. Max aims to bring his knowledge gained in gold operations to help clients achieve improved metallurgical performance. Throughout his operational experience, Max has always been a strong believer in the Maelgwyn technology offerings and was eager to be involved with the company.
Max is also a registered member with South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), Mining Managers Association (MMMA) and a registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA.
