DUONG HOANG

Applied R & D Lead

Duong has an M.Eng degree in Mineral Processing from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Vietnam. Duong started his career by spending 3 years with Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group -Vinacomin as a researcher and designer. He then spent five years in lecturing and research activities at the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology.

Duong became a member of the Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering and Mineral Processing at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg as a PhD student in October 2013. In 2016, he joined the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology – HIF in the processing group. Duong’s research activities focused on the flotation beneficiation of carbonate-rich phosphate ores, optimizing of flotation of the fine particles with an emphasis on cell hydrodynamics and process mineralogy. He also investigated enhanced mineralogical compositional information using automated mineralogy (Mineral Liberation Analyzer-MLA) and flotation modelling to obtain a better understanding of the model processes.

He also participated in various other research/ projects activities at HIF. These included  1) EU Horizon 2020 Optimore project – Flotation modelling of tungsten-/ Tantalum ores, 2) MultiDimFlot project, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), focused on the design of new flotation machine, 3) BMBF client project “REE Nam Xe” between Vietnam and Germany.

Duong is currently working as a mineral processing engineer  mainly supporting the EU H2020 project – FineFuture, in which MMS is a project partner investigating the applicability of its  innovative Imhoflot pneumatic flotation for ultrafine particles.
