Founded in 1997, Maelgwyn Mineral Services Ltd (MMS) is an expanding independent company that is leading the world in product and process innovation in the field of mineral processing and environmental technology. The company has patented technology in a number of areas including for froth flotation, gold leaching and mineral liberation.

MMS is based in Cardiff, Wales – Europe’s youngest capital city. The companies’ projects are world-wide, so overseas travel is the norm for company personnel.

THE ROLE

For our future growth plans we are looking for a person with flotation experience to join our team. The role of the job will be to conduct research around our Imhoflot flotation cells.

RESEARCH METALLURGIST-FLOTATION

Whilst conventional mechanical tank cells have historically been used for flotation MMS is seeing a huge increase in demand for its patented Imhoflot flotation cells as the benefits of this advanced reactor separator technology are now being realised in the mining industry. However, there is still a gap in understanding by the industry compared to conventional cells where most of the research has historically been focused. In order to further grow the Imhoflot brand MMS has identified the need to begin filling this gap through applied research and the delivery of technical and practical papers. Responsibilities of this new position would include.

  • Bench scale Imhoflot research test work
  • Pilot scale test work
  • Dissemination of test work into the public arena via papers and presentations at international conferences
  • Training and support of MMS international partners in Imhoflot bench and pilot scale test work to support full scale plant design.

REQUIREMENTS 

The full experience that this position ideally requires includes: –

  • A BSc in Minerals or Chemical Engineering
  • A Master’s degree/PhD would be advantageous.
  • Practical flotation experience: -laboratory, pilot plant and/or plant operations
  • Academic paper writing and conference presentations
  • Data handling and statistical analysis experience
  • Familiarity with engineering nomenclature would be advantageous.
  • Technical report writing experience.
  • Good English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good leadership and team working skills are essential.
  • Experience working in remote locations would be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and execute cross-functional projects and initiatives through different levels and functions in the business.
  • Microsoft 365 proficient.
  • The position will require some international travel.
  • Hold a valid driving licence.
