DR RAINER IMHOF

Consultant and MMS Director

Dr Imhof has a M.Eng degree in chemistry and a PhD in mineral processing from University of Clausthal, Germany. He has over 40 years design, R&D and management experience in coal and non-ferrous process industries. Rainer has previously worked for Uranerz in Germany, researching various beneficiation processes. He then spent nearly 20 years developing technology for various mineral processing equipment suppliers in Germany including EKOF, KHD Humboldt Wedag (now called MBE Coal & Minerals) and Allmineral. Dr Imhof is credited with the commercialisation of pneumatic flotation, whose early concept had been developed by Prof. Bahr at the University of Clausthal in the 1970’s. During his career Dr Imhof has been involved in the design and supply of many hundreds of flotation plants featuring pneumatic flotation in a whole range of applications including base metal, gold and industrial minerals. Rainer also used his theoretical background in bubble generation, shear and mass transfer to invent the Aachen Reactor for MMS. The development of the Aachen Reactor was specifically focused on solving a problem for gold processing operations. In his career he has had over 20 patents granted in his name covering various devices and processes including pneumatic flotation and mass transfer devices. Rainer is Chairman of GDMB (German mining association) flotation technical committee.

Rainer lives near Hamburg in Germany where he spends his time inventing, designing and improving technology offered by MMS, as well as flowsheet design and equipment selection for the companies projects.
